On Sunday I had a day in London to relax, (AKA a day to do some washing and re-pack), before flying to Scotland for New Year's Eve. I decided to pop into Crouch End for lunch and ended up going to a lovely family run café/bakery called Coffee Cake, a great place to visit if you like healthy eating and unique, tasty combinations! I had a prune and feta cheese tart with a side of aubergine salad and a blackberry and nettle tea. Yum.
I wore my favourite tartan shorts, which I picked up about a month ago down Brick Lane, along with a cashmere jumper and my Dr. Martens shoes. Normally instinct would have me wearing a black collared shirt underneath this jumper, but I love the contrast of the white against the black, and it also adds a fun "school uniform" twist to the ensemble! The bag I'm carrying was a gift from my Auntie for Christmas and is from H&M. (I love simple, black bags because they go with most outfits and look so minimal)!
I'm currently still in Scotland, Matt and I are flying back tomorrow.... I can't wait to show you all of the photos! Although I am looking forward to my own bed and having my wardrobe back, I'm a little sad about returning to normal life and reality after the wonderful two weeks I've just had off.
When I was a little girl I always dreamed of moving to the city. I loved the idea of picturing myself among all the hustle and bustle wearing CHANEL from head to toe. When I would draw pictures I would draw cities. Mostly I would draw Boston or NYC. I never really thought much about moving out west even though I hear that LA is a great place to reinvent yourself every day if you want. Now that sounds kind of fun for someone who loves fashion!
In my 30's I was a little embarrassed to say that I had never moved outside the state of Maine. I started a family here in Maine and It wasn't a good time to pursue my dreams. I never thought I would be saying these next few lines. Now that I am 41 I am proud to say that I have lived in Maine all of my life and I intend to stay! There is just something about this way of life that keeps me motivated and strong. The long cold winters have turned me into a "survivor" which makes me feel oh so grateful for those days that are above 30 degrees. Now don't get me wrong. We have beautiful summers here in Maine. We all just complain that it doesn't last long enough.
But at least the weather in Maine gives us a reason to wear cute winter clothes, like this adorable Buffalo Plaid Vest from TALBOTS. I knew I had to have it when I saw it. This vest is so New England. I plan to wear it for years to come, because New England is where I plan to stay.

Gingham plaid is a classic pattern that is typically worn in spring and summer. It reminds me a little bit of my mothers old table cloth and curtain set. Except hers were red and white. Very French country. I loved it.
